buoyancy applications

Hollow shell technology is a critical component of syntactic buoyancy foam for deep diving submersibles. The weight and volume of the foam itself is an important consideration. Deep Springs Technology (DST) is producing alumina (Al2O3) shells in the desired size and density to improve currently available foam. Shells have been produced with true densities as low as 0.25 – 0.30 g/cc. Shells of 0.40g/cc true density have tested to 20,000 psi.
